Durston Garden Products Ltd has a reputation of being an environmentally conscious company and is kept informed of, and fully supports, Government initiatives in its purchase of peat land of special scientific interest. It is aware of and sympathetic to, concerns by conservationists and the latest trends in growing media among the buying public and is keen to respond positively to the development of alternative growing media. |

With the growing interest in peat alternatives, Durstons have recently undertaken research in conjunction with a leading soil scientist into various recycled materials to produce a growing media from sustainable sources. In 2002, following these trials, Durstons introduced new environmentally friendly products into its range, consisting of peat free compost, soil conditioner, garden mulch and organic compost. |
These products are being marketed alongside peat based ones and Durstons will continue to monitor both their growing performance and consumer confidence. Further changes will be determined on an ongoing basis, led by customer and future legal requirements.
In keeping with its reputation and commitment on environmental issues, Durstons will constantly monitor the requirements of the consumer, keep abreast of the research into peat alternatives, and gradually increase the dilutents in all peat products thus reducing the need for peat in the foreseeable future.
